If you're a fan of fast cars then you've probably played one
of the NASCAR racing games that have been available since the release of Richard Petty's Talladega
in 1985. NASCAR games have come a long way since then and this article is going to go
over the top 5 games that any NASCAR fan is going to want to check out.
Number 5: Gran Turismo 5
(2010)
Gran Turismo 5 was developed by Polyphony Digital for the
Playstation 3. Gran Turismo is a popular and critically acclaimed series of
racing games. Their games are designed to simulate the operation and appearance
of a wide range of real-world vehicles. The first game in the series was
release in 1997, and since then, 68 million copies of the games have been sold.
Gran Turismo 5 is the first GT game to include NASCAR
machines. The game features over 1000 cars, 26 locations and 71 different
tracks. Its graphics are great, and a welcome break after a long run of EA
dominated NASCAR games.
Number 4: iRacing.com
(2010)
iRacing is an online, subscription based racing game for
Microsoft Windows created by iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations. From the
beginning, this platform has been marketed as a game for fans and a training
simulation for real-life racers. It features realistic vehicles and accurately
modeled tracks that have been created using laser mapping of the tracks in
question, resulting in simulated tracks that are accurate to the millimeter.
iRacing has also heavily invested in its physics simulation in order to provide
racers with a realistic experience. iRacing is one of the most realistic racing
games ever invented, and because it is an online platform, it will continue to
grow and update over the years.
Number 3: NASCAR 09
NASCAR '09 is the twelfth game in the EA Sports NASCAR
series. It was released for Playstation 2, Playstation 3, XBox 360, and mobile
phones. EA won an exclusive license with NASCAR to produce their games, and NASCAR '09 was their final installment of the series. This game features a
career mode that is mentored by NASCAR superstar, Jeff Gordon. As for the
actual game mechanics, if you're familiar with EA's NASCAR line, you'll notice
that not much has changed.
Number 2: NASCAR Thunder 2003
NASCAR Thunder 2003 is EA's fifth installment in its NASCAR
series. This game was developed by EA Sports and Budcat Creations and it was
released on PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and the PC.
Thunder features an in-depth career mode that lasts for 20 seasons. Single
players can get their hands dirty in all aspects of a driver's career and
battle a full 43 car field in every race. The game also features a multi-player
mode but the field gets limited down to 18.
Number 1: NASCAR Thunder 2004
NASCAR Thunder 2003 was only topped by NASCAR Thunder 2004
in EA's line of NASCAR racing games. Thunder 2004 was released on PlayStation,
PlayStation2, Xbox and PC. 2004 improved on 2003 by adding an 'alliances and
grudges' feature that allows drivers to work with their allies to take out
their adversaries. Allies can be obtained by drafting other racers, while
rivalries are obtained by bumping into other cars. Alliances and rivalries
carry through the entire career-mode, affecting all future races and adding a
level of realism to the game. NASCAR Thunder 2004 is widely considered the most
complete NASCAR game EA ever made.
