Though NASCAR attracts one of the biggest TV audiences in America, it has rarely been the subject of movies. Here are the top ten NASCAR movies ever made that any true racing fan will want to check out.




#10. Red Line 7000 (1965)
The story of three racing drivers and three women who constantly have to worry for the lives of their boyfriends.

Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Number 53 - the free-wheelin' Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own - puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor.

#8. Stroker Ace (1983)
The title character, a popular NASCAR driver, clashes with the fried-chicken mogul that sponsors his racing team.

The true life story of Wendell Scott, the first black stock car racing driver to win an upper tier NASCAR race.

Poor bookkeeping saddles stock car driver Steve Grayson with a huge bill for back taxes which hampers his ability to continue racing competitively.

#5. Six Pack (1982)
Stopping briefly in a small Texas town, an itinerant race car driver finds that his stock car, on a trailer behind his motor home, has just been quickly and expertly stripped. He chases down the miscreants, who turn out to be six orphan children. He has no recourse to the law, for the corrupt local sheriff takes most of the proceeds of their thievery in exchange for not putting them in an orphanage. They are charming rogues who are in turn charmed by him. Disliking their arrangement with the sheriff, they stow away with him, and he finds himself becoming a reluctant stepfather. Thanks to their enthusiasm and incredible mechanical know-how, he begins to make a name for himself on the racing circuit. But the sheriff doesn't take kindly to losing his extra income.

A hot-shot racecar named Lightning McQueen gets waylaid in Radiator Springs, where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family.

Stock-car driver Richard Petty portrays himself in the story of his life, his father (Darren McGavin) and their racing family.

#2. Days of Thunder (1990):
A young hot-shot stock car driver gets his chance to compete at the top level.

Based on stock-car champion Junior Johnson. As a child in North Carolina, Junior Jackson stays one step ahead of reform school until his father (Art Lund) is thrown in prison for moonshining. Seeing the error of his ways, Jackson begins to concentrate on his driving skills, hoping to become a professional stock car racer to raise money to get his father released from jail. Jackson rises from the ranks into the highest rung of professional stock car racing, but Jackson finds his independent nature is compromised by the corporate realities of the professional sports world.
